The Committee has approved new Rules this year to accommodate the incorporation of digital images as well as traditional slides.

COMPETITION RULES
GENERAL RULES FOR ENTRIES
1. All competition entries, whether commercially, darkroom or digitally produced, are acceptable provided that every aspect of the final image was produced from the submitting member's own camera work. Copies of other photographers' work will not be accepted.
All entries must have originated within the last three years
Members must be fully paid up before submitting entries.
A print, slide or digital image may only be entered in two monthly competitions. However if an entry has been placed in the first three, it may not be entered again in ANY competition, except for the “Print and Projected Image Competition of the Year”. Images placed in any competition of another Photo Club or Society may not be entered in any Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club Competition Parts of winning entries cannot be reproduced as new entries.
All entries must be with the Competition Secretary two weeks before the competition.
With the exception of The Wilson Rose Bowl, all competitions will be judged by an independent judge who may require a preview of the entries.
Each competition will have its own end of year trophy.
All competitions (NEW RULE)
On any competition night, there must be a minimum of five members entering for any single section/class of a Club competition (i.e. Prints, Slides or Dpic) to run
Standard and Advanced Sections.
1. A Standard Member who has won a Club Trophy twice (excluding the Wilson Rose Bowl and Boulton Challenge)in any of the competitions must exhibit, in subsequent years, in the Advanced section in all competitions.
2. A Standard Member may be promoted to the Advanced section by invitation from the Committee.
3. Any member may apply to the Committee for re-classification of his/her section.
4. Any member who has attained any photographic qualification will be deemed to be in the Advanced section with effect from the end of the season in which they attained their award.
2. SECTIONS
There will be two sections for prints - Advanced and Standard
There will be one section for traditional slideThere will be one section for digital images.
3. PRINT Classes
Prints should be mounted on a board no larger than 20inch x 16inch. (It should be remembered that image mounts for entry into WCPF events will still be to a maximum of 50cm x 40cm).
They should be titled on the reverse and identified with the member's number and either 'A' for advanced or 'S' for standard. The photographers name MUST NOT be shown. Any other identifying marks including award stickers must be either removed or securely covered.
For the purpose of club competitions a monochrome print is defined as a black and white print to which one overall tone may be added. E.g. Sepia. Partial or duo-toned images must be entered in the colour class
Framed or glass mounted pictures will not be accepted for safety reasons.
4. TRADITIONAL SLIDES Class
Slides must be genuine film slides mounted in 2" x 2" mounts. Each slide should be spotted in the bottom left hand corner when held from the viewing side and should have a title and the member's number added. Glass mounts will not be accepted.
Digitally enhanced images will not be accepted in this section of competitions.
5. DIGITAL IMAGES Class
Digital images must be the member's own photography. The use of fractals and downloaded images will not be accepted.
The use of filters etc applied to the photographer's own work are acceptable.
Images must be no larger than 1400 px wide x 1050 px high at 72dpi and saved as a jpeg file.
Therefore portrait images should be no taller than 1050 px
Each image’s file name should comprise the member’s number and a title. This should not include any punctuation marks or spaces.
Note: special numbering is required for dpic Panel entries.(see section 'B')
Entries should be sent to the Competition Secretary, either on disc or via e-mail, two weeks before the date of the competition.
6. The Committee may change or vary the competition rules as and when necessary.
THE COMPETITIONS
A. OVERALL PERFORMANCE AWARDS - OPEN AND SET SUBJECTS
General Rules apply to all entries.
Open Competitions
'Open' Competitions - any image made during the last three years starting on the 1st September each year is eligible.
There will be three 'open' competitions for prints only and two 'open' competitions for projected images
Both Advanced and Standard Prints – Total of three prints with a maximum of two in either Mono or Colour classes (a) to reduce possible number of entries to be judged and (b) to encourage standard workers to consider working in mono more readily
Slides & Digital images - a maximum of three entries in either or both sections.
Set Subjects Competition revised 02/11/2011
Entries must have been taken since the announcement of the subjects. (8th December 2010 for 2011)
Advanced Prints - mono and colour sections – max two prints between the classes in any combination.
Standard Prints - mono and colour- max two prints between the classes in any combination
Slides & Digital Images – max two entries between the classes in any combination
Marking
Points will be awarded for “Places” as follows:-
1st Place in any section/class = 4 points
2nd Place in any section/class = 3 points
3rd Place in any section/class = 2 points
Judges will be invited to award up to two Highly Commended places at their discretion, and these will gain one point each and may be entered in other club competitions.
The member who achieves the highest aggregate number of points throughout the season will be the winner. Second and third places will also be awarded.
In a tied situation the winner will be the one with the greatest number of first places. Ties for second and third places will be similarly calculated.
B. PANEL COMPETITION - ONE SECTION/CLASS ONLY
General Rules apply where appropriate.
Each panel entry, whether prints, slides or digital images should show an obvious relationship between the individual images.
Not more than two images should have been entered in any previous monthly competition.
The judge will be asked to give due regard to each panel as a whole, looking for consistency, presentation and layout.
Prints
Set of 5 prints either Monochrome or Colour or a mix of both.
To be displayed on one of the club's boards (approximately 47ins square)
The panel should have a title which may also be displayed, as text only, on the board.
One panel per member to be assembled by the member (or representative) on the night
of the competition before the judge arrives. (TO BE STRICTLY OBSERVED)
Digital Images
A set of five images with each image's file name showing member's number, plus numbers 1 - 5 giving the order of projection and a title, if required and as text only, E.g: 7501TheDoor, 7502TheWindow and so on.There should be no punctuation marks or spaces in the file name.
A collective title, as text only, may be presented on a sixth image and this should have the number 00 to indicate this.(e.g. 7500Entrances)
Slides
A set of five slides, correctly spotted and numbered to show the order of projection. A collective title may be presented on a sixth slide at the beginning of the sequence, as text only, and identified with the member's number.
C. THE PRINT & PROJECTED IMAGE COMPETITION OF THE YEAR - ONE SECTION
General rules apply to all entries
Entries should have been taken since the previous competition.
The classes are:-
Monochrome Prints
Colour Prints
Traditional Slides
Digital Images
Members may enter a OVERALL TOTAL of FOUR images in the above classes, with a maximum of 2 prints and 2 projected images and with no more than two entries in any class. (to spread entries over classes and get more projected entries without increasing overall number)
D. THE WILSON ROSE BOWL - ONE CATEGORY ONLY
The competition is open to all members
Entries must consist of three slides of your own choice (traditional slides only) spotted, titled and identified with the member's number. The slides must be no more than 10 years old and must not have been placed in a previous club competition.
The awards given will be 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze, with the best gold award receiving the Rose Bowl.
The rules for this competition may change on an annual basis, at the discretion of the Chairman and Tony Wilson.
The competition will be judged by Tony Wilson
E. THE AWARD FOR IMAGINATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY
Judges of the various competitions, held throughout the season, will be asked to award a point to any images which he/she feels demonstrate imagination. Points can be awarded in both prints and projected images.
The Award will be presented to the photographer who gains the most points given by the various judges throughout all the competitions of the season.
F. THE BOULTON TROPHY
For the Standard Section Club member, voted for by the club membership, and felt to have made the most progress photographically during the year.
