COMPETITION RULES
The Committee has approved new Rules this year to accommodate the incorporation of digital images as well as traditional slides.
DAWLISH & TEIGNMOUTH CAMERA CLUB.
COMPETITION RULES.
GENERAL RULES FOR ENTRIES.
1. All competition entries, whether commercial, darkroom or digital, are acceptable provided that every aspect of the final image was produced from the submitting member's own camera work. Copies of other photographers' work will not be accepted.
All entries must have originated within the last three years.
Members must be fully paid up before submitting entries.
A print, slide or digital image may only be entered in two monthly competitions. However if an entry has been placed in the first three, it may not be entered again in any monthly competition.
Parts of winning entries cannot be reproduced as new entries.
All entries must be with the Competition Secretary two weeks before the competition.
All competitions, with the exception of The Boulton Challenge Cup and The Wilson Rose Bowl, will be judged by independent judges who may require a preview of the entries.
Each competition will have its own end of year trophy.
2. There will be two categories for prints - Advanced and Standard.
There will be one category for traditional slides.
There will be one category for digital images.
3. PRINTS.
Prints should be mounted on a board no larger than 50cm x 40cm.
They should be titled on the reverse and identified with the member's number and either 'A' for advanced or 'S' for standard.
The photographers name should not be shown.
Any other identifying marks should be either removed or securely covered.
For the purpose of club competitions a monochrome print is defined as 'a black and white print to which one colour or tone may be added'
Framed or glass mounted pictures will not be accepted for safety reasons.
4. SLIDES.
Slides must be genuine film slides mounted in 2" x 2" mounts. Each slide should be spotted in the bottom left hand corner when held from the viewing side and should have a title and the member's number added.
Digitally enhanced images will not be accepted in this section of competitions.
5. DIGITAL IMAGES.
Digital images must be the photographer's own photography. The use of fractals and downloaded images will not be accepted.
The use of filters etc applied to the photographer's own work are acceptable.
Images must be no larger than 1024 px wide x 768 px high at 72dpi and filed as a jpeg image. Therefor portraits should be no taller than 768px.
Each image should be numbered with the member's number and given a title. This will be the image's file name and should not include any punctuation marks or spaces.
Note: Special numbering is required for dpic Panel entries.(see section 'B')
Entries should be sent to the Competition Secretary, either on disc or via e-mail, two weeks before the date of the competition.
6. The Committee may change or vary the competition rules as and when necessary.
THE COMPETITIONS.
A. OVERALL PERFORMANCE AWARDS. - OPEN AND SET SUBJECTS.
'Open' Competitions - any subject taken in last three years starting at 1st September each year. There will be three open competitions for prints and one for projected images.
'Set Subjects' Competition - taken since the announcement of the subject by the Chairman.
General Rules apply to all entries.
Advanced Prints - One monochrome prints one colour prints.
Standard Prints -Two entries, EITHER all the same or a mixture of colour and monochrome.
Slides & Digital images - a maximum of two entries in EITHER section or one entry in both.
Each entry will be awarded a point with further points for winners as follows:-
1st Place in any section = 4 points
2nd Place in any section = 3 points
3rd Place in any section = 2 points
Judges are invited to award Highly Commended or Commended at their discretion, however, these will not gain additional points but may be entered again in future competitions.
The member who achieves the highest number of points throughout the season will be deemed the winner. Second and third places will be awarded to those members gaining 2nd and 3rd highest number of points.
In a tied situation the winner will be the one with the greatest number of first places. Ties for second and third places will be similarly calculated.
B. PANEL COMPETITION - ONE CATEGORY ONLY.
General Rules apply where appropriate.
Each panel entry, whether prints, slides or digital images, should show an obvious relationship between the five individual images.
Not more than two images should have been entered in any previous monthly competition.
The judge will be asked to give due regard to each panel as a whole, as well as to the individual entries within that panel.
Prints.
A set of 5 prints either Monochrome or Colour or a mix of both.
To be displayed on a board of approximately 47ins square which will be provided by the Club.
The panel should have a title which may also be displayed on the board.
One panel per member to be assembled by the member on the night of the competition before the judge arrives.
Slides.
A set of five slides, correctly spotted and numbered to show order of projection. A collective title may be presented on a sixth slide at the beginning of the sequence and identified with the member's number.
Digital Images.
A set of five images with each image's file name showing member's number and a title (if required) as well as numbers 1 - 5 giving order of projection. E.g. 7501TheDoor, 7502TheWindow and so on.
There should be no punctuation marks or spaces in the file name. A collective title may be presented on a sixth image and this should have the number 00 to indicate this.(e.g.7500Entrances)
C. THE PRINT & PROJECTED IMAGE COMPETITION OF THE YEAR - ONE CATEGORY.
General rules apply to all entries.
Entries should have been taken since the last such competition.
The sections are:-

Colour Prints
Traditional Slides
Digital Images
Members may enter two images in each of the four sections.
D. THE BOULTON CHALLENGE CUP - ONE CATEGORY ONLY.
This competition is an illustration, by words and photographs, of some aspect of your life, such as a hobby, interest, activity or event.
There must be a title and a narrative of between 50 - 100 words illustrated by up to six prints mounted on a board of approximately 50cm x 40cm(20" x 16"). The narrative should also be mounted on the board. Prints may be numbered if preferred. No identification of the photographer of any means should be shown.
Entries to be with the Competition Secretary one week before the competition to enable them to be numbered and recorded.
The competition will be judged by Arthur Boulton A.R.P.S.
E. THE WILSON ROSE BOWL - ONE CATEGORY ONLY.
The competition is open to all members.
Entries must consist of three slides of your own choice (traditional slides only) spotted, titled and identified with the member's number.
The slides must be no more than 10 years old and must not have been placed in previous club competition.
The awards given will be 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze, with the best gold award receiving the Rose Bowl.
The rules for this competition may change on an annual basis, at the discretion of the Chairman and Tony Wilson.
The competition will be judged by Tony Wilson
F. THE AWARD FOR IMAGINATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY.
Standard and Advanced Members Work shall be judged in the usual way by outside judges. This award is given in respect of the images entered in both the print and projected image sections.
