An Evening with The Proteus Group.

"The Proteus Group"
In 1980 eight like minded photographers got together to form the Proteus Photo Group. This Group continues to meet on a monthly basis with the objectives of exchanging ideas and generally fostering interest to improve the photography of its members. There are currently eight members, although this has varied a little over the years, from Teignmouth, Newton Abbot and the Torbay area who are frequently in demand as judges, tutors and lecturers. Their work, which is extremely varied, has been seen by most of the photographic clubs in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. The Group has had considerable success in regional and national competitions, and individuals have had acceptances in exhibitions abroad.

Five members of the Group joined over 30 members of the Dawlish & Teignmouth Camera Club at their meeting on March 19th and presented their latest lecture ‘More Prints by Proteus’. Stalwart Proteus members, Jean and Geoff Ashworth introduced a varied selection of prints covering a wide selection of subjects including natural history, landscape, architectural and abstract work. The standard of work was particularly high and included a number of images where Photoshop had been used to manipulate work to great effect. Most of the work was digitally produced and enhanced although some traditional darkroom work was included. The presentation was enthusiastically received by the club members and the Group were thanked for the very high standard of their work and the fact that the Group has gone from strength to strength over this long period of time, the hope being that this will continue and that we may continue to enjoy their work in future years.
