A Visit from Exeter Camera Club
03 March 2010
"Exeter Camera Club"
Sandra Barrett was the first member to test our reaction to her work. She presented two audio visual sequences, the first ‘We can do it’ about watching Obama’s inauguration from Time Square, New York and the second ‘The Wave’ about a climate protest in London. The sequences were very skilfully done, very colourful with apt music. Vanessa Langley followed her, who was an eccentric in the best British tradition. Vanessa, gave us a wonderful presentation on lighthouses’ The woman, it seemed would stop at nothing to take pictures of these wonderful buildings. The first half was concluded by Russell Whelan, who gave us a selection of mono and colour images he likes to take.
The second half began with Colin Yelland giving us a history of the cameras he had owned. Colin took us from his tentative steps in his youth with a Kodak 127 Brownie to what he uses now, a Nikon D80. This was a very interesting presentation that most members associated with. The next, Fran Taylor presented an AV called El Hierro about a small abandoned village on El Hierro that is used in the summer by the locals. This was a rather bleak sequence with a feel of the Mary Celeste about it. Finally the evening was ended by John Sanders showing us six prints that didn’t get in his RPS Panel, which were well crafted pictures never the less.
To see their work go to Exeter Camera Club
Next week the club holds its final print open competition of the year.
