The Panel Competition

"Paul Lawson, Ann Owens, Richard Potts and Edward Crawford"
An effectively full turnout of 35 members attended the annual Panel Competition at Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club last week. Usually competitions involve single images but this event calls for five images which must be linked by a common theme and relate to each other visually. This means that a panel of prints, properly produced and displayed, will provide high visual interest.

As well as prints, there were projected panels, both of slides and digital images. The variety was immense with panels relating to Ice, Flowers, Street Life, Architecture, Landscapes, etc.

The judge, Ann Owens fro Plymouth, commented that the overall standard was very good thus providing her with some very difficult decisions. In her own friendly interactive style she sought opinions from the audience as well as the individual photographers before arriving at the following results:

Print Panel:
1st Eddie Crawford (Barcelona Street Life),
2nd Tony Wilson (Romantic Venice),
3rd Terry Boulton (Reflections).
Highly Commended awards were given to Ernie King, Ken Holland and Shirley Boulton.

Slides:
1st Richard Potts (The Bridge),
2nd John Thompson (Greek Fishing Boats),
3rd Geoff Todd (Ming Tombs).

Digitally Projected Images:
1st Paul Lawson (Pencil Me In),
2nd Ken Holland (Alone),
3rd Bob Clowes (‘Red’ fighting white water).
Highly Commended awards went to Jon Pitt, Ken Bradley and Shirley Boulton.

Next (Wednesday) the Club holds its annual ‘Audio Visual’ evening at Holcombe Village Hall (7.30pm) where some members will demonstrate their ability to blend images with music, some with sound effects and commentary.
