Second Open Competition.

This evening Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club held their second open print competition of the season. The Club tries to encourage all members to submit entries and, to entice newer members to enter work, there are separate classes for standard and advanced members. The judge, Derek Stratton, was candid in his assessment of all the prints making the point that he was providing a subjective critique with a view to guiding the photographers into producing better work in the future.

In the event, he said the winning prints were of top quality the winners being as follows:

Standard Prints:

First ‘Red Sceptre’ by Eddie Crawford who was also second with ‘A wet afternoon in Spain.’ Paul Lawson came third with ‘The Seat’. A Highly Commended award was given to Bob Clowes and Commended awards to Byron Carnell, Jon Pitt and Ken Redshaw who had three such prints.

Advanced Monochrome Prints:

First Shirley Boulton with ‘Tinside Pool’, second Jean King with ‘Lunch Break’ and third, Tony Wilson with ‘Waiting for the Midnight Ferry’. Commended work was submitted by Ernie King, Shirley Boulton, Tony Wilson, Mac Bouchere, Ken Holland and Jean King.

Advanced Colour Prints:

First Ken Bradley with ‘Fernworthy Reservoir’, second Shirley Boulton with ‘Sutton Harbour.’ Third was Terry Bolton with ‘Casino Stairway’. The work of Jean King, Richard Potts and Ken Bradley was Highly Commended with Ken Holland and Peter Sillifant having Commended entries.

On the 25th of November six Advanced Members will entertain fellow members with displays of their own prints, projected images and audio visuals when they meet at Holcombe Village Hall at 7.30pm.
