An evening with Stan Newton ARPS

"All Saints Kenton"
Club Report 30/09/09.

Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club were entertained last Wednesday by Stan Newton, a past member who, due to some mobility issues, now largely confines his photography to a bus ride from his home in Kenton.

Stan commenced by showing some award winning prints. These included one of street furniture in Exeter which had been rejected by a judge in a local competition but awarded first prize in a national competition organised by the Royal Photographic Society.

He then showed the Club recent images taken within a short distance of his home. The architecture of Kenton featured in prints which conveyed, colour, shape and form. Similarly we saw views of ancient and modern buildings, including street furniture and quirky signs, in Exeter.

The presentation included many candid shots of life around the High Street in Exeter. Stan reminded his photographer friends that it is perfectly legal to take photographs in public spaces, including images of people in such places. Thus, he showed images of the fashions of the day, the shops and shoppers, outdoor eating places, buskers and life in general.

The evening concluded with views of Stan’s favourite holiday destination, Santorini. This small volcanic island has a combination of architecture, people and scenery that all call out to be photographed.

Stan's prints and audio visuals reminded us of the days when they featured in our meetings. In proposing the vote of thanks therefore, Chairman, Paul Lawson, advised him that the Club would be delighted if he returned to the fold.
